Chris Woakes claimed figures of 4/50 as England beat Australia by 49 runs in the fifth and the final test at the Oval on Monday.
Resuming at 135/0, Woakes got the hosts off to a dream start by dismissing both David Warner and Usman Khawaja for 60 & 72 respectively.
Marnus Labuschagne’s (13) poor run with the bat continued as he nicked a delivery from Mark Wood to Zak Crawley at second slip, who took a fine low catch.
The pair of Steven Smith and Travis Head featured in a valuable 95 run stand for the fourth wicket. Smith got a reprieve just before lunch when Ben Stokes lost control of the ball after taking the catch off Moeen Ali at leg gully. The visitors reached 238/3.
The second session was lost due to rain. When play resumed Ali broke the stand by dismissing Head, caught at slip by Joe Root for 43.
Smith (54) after reaching a well deserved half century edged a delivery from Woakes to Crawley at slip. The visitors slumped even when Jonny Bairstow pulled off a stunning catch towards right off an inside edge onto his pad off Ali.
The pair of Alex Carey and Todd Murphy provided a glimmer of hope with a ninth wicket stand of 35 runs before the latter fell to a peach off a delivery from Stuart Broad to wicket keeper Bairstow behind the stumps.
Broad ended his fantastic career by claiming the final wicket of Alex Carey, caught behind as Australia were bowled out for 334, giving the hosts a 49 run win.
With this victory, England leveled the series 2-2.
England 283 (Brook 85, Starc 4-82) and 395 (Root 91, Bairstow 78, Crawley 73, Starc 4-100, Murphy 4-110) beat Australia 295 (Smith 71) and 334 (Khawaja 72, Warner 60, Smith 54, Woakes 4-50) by 49 runs
