India vs West Indies First ODI Bridgetown Match Report 2023

Kuldeep Yadav claimed figures of 4/6 as India defeated West Indies by 5 wickets in the first one day international at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday.

After being asked to bat first by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya drew first blood by dismissing Kyle Mayers (2), caught at mid on by Rohit.

The pair of Brandon King along with Alick Athanaze added 38 runs for the second wicket before Mukesh Kumar claimed his maiden wicket by dismissing the latter caught brilliantly by Ravi Jadeja at backward point for 22.

Shardul Thakur then got into the act by cleaning up King for 17. Shai Hope along with Shimron Hetmyer featured in a crucial 43 run stand for the fourth wicket stand before the latter (11) was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, while attempting a scoop.

The left arm spinner also dismissed Rovman Powell (4) and Romario Shepherd (0) in the same over as the West Indies stumbled to 96/6.

Kuldeep then ran through the lower order by dismissing Dominic Drakes (3), Yannic Cariah (3), skipper Shai Hope (43) and Jayden Seales (0) as the hosts were bundled out for 114 in just 23 overs.

Chasing 115, India opened the innings with Ishan Kishan instead of skipper Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill fell for 7, poking at a delivery from Seales to King at second slip.

Suryakumar Yadav who came in at No 3, was dismissed leg before wicket by Gudakesh Motie while attempting a sweep for 19. Hardik Pandya who was dropped by King at slip on 1 was unlucky to be run out, as Ishan Kishan hammered one back at Cariah and the ball deflected onto the stumps at the non strikers end for 5.

Kishan after reaching his half century, was caught at deep midwicket by Powell off Gudakesh Motie for 52.

Shardul Thakur (1) then guided one from Cariah to Alick Athanaze at second slip. However Ravindra Jadeja along with skipper Rohit Sharma saw the team through without any further hiccups, as the visitors overhauled the target of 118 in just 22.5 overs.

India 118 for 5 (Kishan 52, Motie 2-26) beat West Indies 114 (Hope 43, Kuldeep 4-6, Jadeja 3-37) by five wickets.
