Skipper Sam Curran led from the front by scoring a quickfire 55 as Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 13 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first Cameron Green drew first blood by dismissing Matthew Short for 11. Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide featured in a 48 run stand for the second wicket before the former was trapped leg before wicket by Arjun Tendulkar for 26.

Piyush Chawla then got into the act by dismissing both Liam Livingstone (10) and the well set Atharva Taide for 29. The pair of Harpreet Singh and Sam Curran took on the Mumbai Indians bowlers and smashed them to all part of the ground. The duo launched Arjun for 31 runs in the 16th over.

Curran slammed Cameron Green for two successive sixes in the 18th over, but the MI pacer came back strongly by knocking over Harpreet Singh with a magnificent yorker for 41. However Jitesh Sharma (25) slammed Jason Behrendorff for two sixes and a boundary to take Punjab to a mammoth score of 214/8 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 215, Mumbai Indians got off to a poor start by losing Ishan Kishan to Arshdeep Singh for 1. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green added 76 for the second wicket before the former chipped a return catch to Liam Livingstone for 44.

Green featured in yet another valuable 75 run stand for the third wicket alongside Suryakumar Yadav before the former perished to Nathan Ellis for a fine 67.

Suryakumar reached his well deserved half century off just 23 balls 50 with a ramp shot off Sam Curran. However his fantastic knock ended when he flicked a low full-toss from Arshdeep Singh to Taide at midwicket.

Arshdeep then bowled a brilliant final over by knocking over Tilak Varma (3) and Nehal Wadhera (0) off consecutive deliveries as they finished at 201/6, giving Punjab a 13 run win.
