Kyle Mayers scored a well composed half century as Lucknow Super Giants beat Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first by Rajasthan skipper, openers KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers got Lucknow off to a solid start. The pair added 82 runs for the opening stand before the former was caught at long on by Jos Buttler off Jason Holder for 39.
Trent Boult then got into the act by cleaning up Ayush Badoni as he missed the scoop. Deepak Hooda then miscued a big hit off Ravi Ashwin to Shimron Hetmyer.
The off-spinner then pegged the Super Giants by dismissing the in form Mayers bowled for 51. The pair of Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran featured in a 45 run stand for the fifth wicket before the former perished to Sandeep Sharma for a 16 ball-21.
Nicholas Pooran struck some lusty blows towards the end to take LSG to 154/7 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 155 openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler got Rajasthan off to a magnificent start. The duo added 87 runs for the opening wicket before the former was caught at short third man by Avesh Khan off Stoinis for 44.
Skipper Sanju Samson was then run out following a horrible mix up with Buttler for 2. Australian all rounder Marcus Stoinis struck a vital blow by dismissing England wicket keeper Buttler (40), caught at deep midwicket by Ravi Bishnoi.
Last match hero Shimron Hetmyer (2) departed cheaply toe ending a delivery from Avesh Khan to KL Rahul. Impact Devdutt Padikkal provided a glimmer of hope by smashing Stoinis for three fours in the 18th over.
With 19 needed off the final over, Avesh dismissed both Padilkkal and Shruv Jurel off consecutive deliveries as the Royals ended up with 144/6 in their 20 overs, thereby falling short by 10 runs.
