Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored a brilliant unbeaten 38 as Bangladesh beat India by one wicket in a low scoring thriller in the first one day international in Dhaka on December 4, Sunday.
After being asked to bat first by Bangladesh skipper Litton Das, openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got India off to a steady start. The duo added 23 runs for the opening wicket before the latter (7) was cleaned up by Miraz while attempting a reverse sweep.
Shakib Al Hasan then pegged the visitors back- first by dismissing Rohit (27) with an arm delivery and then claiming Virat Kohli (9), who fell to a superb diving catch by Das towards cover.
The pair of Shreyas Iyer along with KL Rahul added 43 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the former top edged a short ball from Ebadot Hossain to wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim for 24.
Rahul featured in yet another valuable 60 run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Washington Sundar before the latter (19) hit a reverse sweep off Shakib to Hossain at point.
Shakib claimed his five wicket haul by dismissing Shardul Thakur (two) and Deepak Chahar (0) in one over. Hossain then wrapped up the innings by claiming the well set Rahul (73), top edging a pull to Anamul Haque and then dismissing Siraj (9) mistiming a pull as India were bundled out for 186 in 41.2 overs.
Chasing 187, Deepak Chahar drew first blood by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto (0) with a very first delivery, caught at first slip by Rohit Sharma.
Mohammed Siraj then got into the act by dismissing Anamul Haque (14) caught at mid wicket by Washington Sundar.
Sundar, however, provided the vital breakthrough by sending back Liton Das, gloving one to wicket keeper KL Rahul for 41.
Former skipper Kohli took a stunning catch to his right at extra cover to dismiss the well set Shakib Al Hasan (29).
Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim added 33 runs for the fifth wicket, before both fell in consecutive deliveries. The former was trapped leg before wicket by Shardul Thakur for 14, while Mushfiqur Rahim (18) then chopped a shortish delivery from Siraj on to his stumps.
Kuldeep Sen claimed his maiden wicket by dismissing Afif Hossain (6) slashing at a wide delivery to Siraj. In the very same over Ebadot Hossain (0) was hit wicket as he looked to a clip a back of a length delivery down the leg.
Siraj then claimed his third wicket by trapping Hasan Mahmud (0) leg before wicket, leaving the hosts in deep trouble at 136/9.
However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38*) along with Mustafizur Rahman (10) featured in an unbroken 51 run stand for the last wicket to take Bangladesh to a famous win.
With this victory, the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the three match series.
