India vs South Africa Third ODI Capetown Match Report 2022

Deepak Chahar’s valiant knock of 54 went in vain as India went down to South Africa by 4 runs in the third one day one day international in Capetown on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first by Indian skipper KL Rahul, Deepak Chahar drew first blood by dismissing Janneman Malan (1) early.

Temba Bavuma was run out by a direct hit from Rahul at mid off for 8.

Aiden Markram (15), mistimed a Deepak Chahar short delivery to substitute fielder Ruturaj Gaikwad at deep midwicket, as the Proteas were reduced to 70/3.

Quinton De Kock and Rassie van der Dussen brought the innings back on track with a 144 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former pulled a Jasprit Bumrah delivery to Shikhar Dhawan at deep square leg for a scintillating 124. His knock came of 130 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.

Van der Dussen who was dropped twice by Pant off Jayant Yadav, finally fell to a brilliant diving catch by Shreyas Iyer off Yuzvendra Chahal for a 59 ball- 52.

David Miller (39) and Dwaine Pretorius (20) made some useful contributions down the order, as the visitors were bowled out 287 in 49.5 overs.

For India, Prasidh Krishna claimed 3/59, while Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah bagged 2 wickets each.

Chasing 288, the visitors lost KL Rahul early for 9. Shikhar Dhawan along with Virat Kohli added a crucial 98 run stand for the second wicket before the former top-edged a short ball from Andile Phehlukwayo to the keeper for 61.

Rishabh Pant threw his wicket away with his very first delivery giving a catch to sweeper cover, as India were reduced at 118/3.

Former skipper Kohli looked good in his knock of 65, before he got a leading edge to one that turned and bounced and was caught by Temba Bavuma, running back from cover point.

Shreyas Iyer (26) & Suryakumar Yadav (39) fell after getting starts, as the visitors slumped to 210/6.

Deepak Chahar kept the vistors hopes alive with some lusty hits down the order. However in the 48th over, Chahar mistimed a Lungi Ngidi slower delivery to Dwaine Pretorius for a breezy 54. His knock came off 34 balls with five fours and two sixes.

Jasprit Bumrah (12) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2) failed to take their side past the finishing line, as the visitors were bowled out for 283 in 49.2 overs. With this win the hosts completed a whitewash over India.

Quinton De Kock was declared the Player of the Match and the Series.
