Proteas skipper Dean Elgar lead from the front by scoring a magnificent unbeaten 96 as South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg to level the three-match series 1-1.

Rain washed the first two sessions of Day 4. Resuming at a overnight score of 118/2, the duo of Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen added 57 more runs before Mohammed Shami provided the much needed breakthrough by dismissing the latter caught behind at first slip by Cheteshwar Pujara for 40.

Temba Bavuma was given a reprieve when Shardul Thakur failed to hold on to a sharp catch off his own bowling. Bavuma along with Elgar added an unbeaten 68 runs for the third wicket to take South Africa to a famous seven-wicket win.
