Afghanistan vs Scotland Group 2 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup October 25 Sharjah Match Report 2021

Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed figures of 5/20 as Afghanistan mauled Scotland by 130 runs in Sharjah on Monday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Afghanistan opening pair of Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad got their side off to a fantastic start. The pair added 54 runs for the opening wicket before the latter holed out to deep midwicket by Chris Greaves off Safyaan Sharif for a 15 ball-22.

Zazai was castled by a quicker delivery by Mark Watt for 44.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Najibullah Zadran added 87 runs for the third wicket before the former edged a low toss from Davey to Coetzer for 46.

Zadran after scoring a fine 59 was caught at deep midwicket by Wheal off Sharif. His knock came off 34 balls with five fours and three sixes.

Mohammad Nabi provided some lusty hits towards to the end to take Afghanistan to an imposing score of 190/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 191, Scotland openers George Munsey and skipper Kyle Coetzer put on 28 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was bowled by Mujeeb for 10.

Mujeeb then also dismissed both Calum MacLeod and Richie Berrington leg before wicket for ducks respectively.

Matthew Cross fell to a brilliant diving catch by wicket keeper Mohammad Shahzad off Naveen-ul-Haq leaving Afghanistan in trouble at 30/4.

The spin twins Rashid Khan and Mujeeb bamboozled Scotland’s middle and lower order as they lost the last six wickets for just 30 runs.

In the end Scotish were bundled out for 60 in 10.2 overs, giving Afghanistan a whooping 130 run win.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman was declared the Man of the Match for his fantastic bowling performance.
