Ravindra Jadeja scored a quickfire 8 ball-22 as Chennai Super Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 wickets in a last-ball thriller in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders suffered an early jolt by losing Shubman Gill run out by a brilliant direct hit from Ambati Rayudu.
Venkatesh Iyer along with Rahul Tripathi added 40 runs for the second wicket stand before the former edged a full and wide delivery from Shardul Thakur behind the stumps.
Skipper Eoin Morgan (8) was caught brilliantly at long-on by Faf du Plessis off Josh Hazlewood. Tripathi (45) was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while going for a pre meditated reverse sweep.
Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik provided late flourish in the end to lift Knight Riders to a competitive total of 171/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Super Kings Shardul Thakur and Josh Hazlewood claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 172, Chennai opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis got their team off to a fantastic start. The duo added 74 runs for the opening wicket before the former was dismissed by Russell caught at covers by Morgan for 40.
Du Plessis along with Moeen Ali added 28 runs for the second wicket before the former fell to a stunning catch by Ferguson off Prasidh Krishna for a 30 ball-43.
Moeen perished to a a Ferguson short delivery to Iyer at long on for 32. CSK lost their way as Suresh Raina (11) and MS Dhoni (1) departed in the 18th over.
With 26 requiring off 12 balls, Jadeja clobbered Krishna for 22 runs in the penultimate over to bring the equation to 4 off 6 deliveries.
Sunil Narine claimed wickets of Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja to take the game to the final ball.
However Deepak Chahar held his nerve and took his side past the finishing line.
Jadeja was named the Man of the Match for his fabulous all-round show.
