Rohit Sharma scored a majestic 127 as India ended Day 2 of the fourth test at Oval on 270/3, with an overall lead of 171 on Saturday.
Resuming at overnight score of 43/0, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul saw off the first hour without much trouble. The duo added 40 more runs before James Anderson broke the partnership by dismissing Rahul caught behind for 46.
Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara featured in a superb 153 run stand for the second wicket. The Mumbai Indians skipper reached his maiden overseas hundred by smashing Moeen Ali for a six over long on.
However Ollie Robinson struck twice with the new ball by dismissing both Rohit and Pujara to bring the hosts back into the contest.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (9) were unbeaten at the crease, before bad light forced umpires to call stumps. The visitors finished the day at 270/3, with a significant lead of 171 runs.
Robinson was the pick of the bowlers for England with figures of 2/67, while Anderson claimed a solitary wicket.
