India Women vs South Africa Women Fourth ODI Lucknow Match Report 2021

Punam Raut’s unbeaten 104 went in vain, as India Women lost to South Africa Women in the fourth one day International in Lucknow on Sunday.

After being sent in by South Africa skipper, Shabnim Ismail got the visitors of to a fantastic start by dismissing star opener Smriti Mandhana for 10.

Priya Punia coming in place of Jemimah Rodrigues looked solid in her knock of 32 before she fell to Nondumiso Shangase.

The pair of Punam along with skipper Mithali Raj resurrected the innings with a 103 run stand for the third wicket before the latter was caught by Ismail off Tumi Sekhukhune for 45. Mithali also became the first cricketer to score 7000 runs in Women’s One day international.

Raut along with Harmanpreet Kaur added 88 runs for the fourth wicket stand. Harmanpreet scored a quickfire 54 off 35 balls before she was bowled by Sekhukhune in the 48th over. The 31 year old Punam remained unbeaten on 104 to take the home side to a competitive total of 266/4 at the end of 50 overs.

Chasing 267,the opening duo of Lizelle Lee and stand-in captain Laura Wolvaardt got their team of to a good start by putting on 116 runs for the opening wicket. The former looked good in her knock of 69 before she was dismissed leg before wicket by Kaur.

In the 29th over Mansi Joshi provided claimed the prize scalp of skipper Laura for 58 to give the home side a glimmer of hope.

Lara Goodall along with Mignon du Preez stitched together 103 runs for the third wicket before the latter fell for a superb knock of 65. Her innings came off 55 balls with 8 fours and a six.

The pair of Goodall and Marizanne Kapp saw the team through without any further hiccups, as South Africa Women reached the target with 8 balls to spare and also won the series 3-1.

Mignon du Preez was declared the Man of the Match.
