Out of 7 games played against England at Manchester, Pakistan’s only victory came way back in the year 2001, where they defeated the home side by 108 runs.
Pakistan’s first visit to this venue was in 1954. They were made to follow on by the hosts and were 25/4 in their second innings but bad weather allowed them to escape with a draw.
The next two visits to Old Trafford came in 1987 and 1992, with both ending in draws. Then came the aforementioned win in 2001, thanks to the heroics of the legendary Inzamam- Ul Haq with the bat. However their next two visits both ended in heavy defeats- one by an innings and 120 runs in the year 2006, and the other by a whopping 330 runs in 2016.
In the year 2020, they should’ve won, having had England on the ropes at 117/5, but instead lost by three wickets- the first time in 20 years that they had failed to defend a 250+ fourth innings score in test cricket.
