India vs England Fifth ODI Match Preview-2018

Team India, after a resounding 224 run win against the West Indies in the fourth ODI, will be aiming to seal the series with a win in the fifth ODI at Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

The Men in Blue are leading 2-1, with the second ODI in Vizag having been tied. Virat Kohli’s men cannot lose the series, but a win will see the Windies draw it 2-2 and take home a share of the spoils.

The likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma and No 4 Ambati Rayudu have all scored hundreds in the series. Shikhar Dhawan has had starts, but is the only one in the top four to have not notched up a century so far.

A curtailed game is expected in the Kerala capital, with rains expected to play spoilsport. India’s only previous game at the Greenfield Stadium, against New Zealand in November last year, was also a rain-hit affair, with the hosts winning by six runs in an eight over fixture.

Former Indian Skipper MS Dhoni, who has been left out of the T-20 squad needs just one run to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs.

India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah, after being rested for the first two one dayers, has been simply outstanding. He would be having happy memories of this ground, where he bowled a match winning two over spell in a rain curtailed game against New Zealand.

His opening partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar though has looked out of sorts.

However young Khaleel Ahmed, who did not have a good start to the series, enjoyed the conditions at the Brabourne, claiming three vital wickets to wreck the Windies chase.

Left arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been sensational with the ball by claiming 8 wickets in this series.

The visitors would again be depending on the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope to make a substantial contribution. Apart from the duo, the only other Windies player to show a level of consistency this series has been captain Jason Holder, who top scored with 54 in the last game.

Veteran Marlon Samuels has appeared out of sorts with the bat, though he made a vital contribution with the ball in the third ODI by taking 3 wickets including the decisive one of opposition skipper Kohli.

Off-spinner Ashley Nurse appears to be a doubtful starter after picking up an injury in the Mumbai game. Devendra Bishoo is likely to take his place.
