Alastair Cook announces his retirement from International Cricket

England’s opening batsman Alastair Cook will be retiring from international cricket after the completion of the final Test against India at the Oval, starting on Friday.

The 33 year old left handed opening batsman has played has played 160 matches and has scored 12,254 runs at an average of 44.88.

However he has had a horrendous run this year, averaging 18.62 in 16 innings, and has not scored a single fifty in the current series against India.

Cook however will continue playing for his county side Essex next season.
