England all rounder Ben Stokes claimed three wickets on Day 4, including the prize scalp of Indian captain and star batsman Virat Kohli as the home side beat the visitors by 31 runs at Edgbaston.
Stokes finished the second innings with 4/40 runs.
India’s hopes of winning ended when Kohli was dismissed for 51 Runs.
Hardik Pandya, the lone man tried his best but was unable to get his team over the line and was the last man to be dismissed for 31 Runs caught at slip by Alastair Cook off the bowling of Stokes.
The English team will be heading into the second Test at Lord’s with a 1-0 lead.
Sam Curran was adjudged as the man of the match for claiming five wickets in the test, but more importantly producing a match winning knock, with the help of the tail and guiding his team from a precarious 87/7 to a competitive score of 180 runs in the second innings.
The second Test starts on August 9 at Lord’s.
