England strike bowler James Anderson ripped through the visitors top order and openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed both scored fine half centuries as England took complete control at the end of Day 1 of the third test at Headingly.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss for the first time and elected to bat first. They opted to keep faith with the same side that had done the business at Lord’s in the previous test, while England made two changes- opener Dom Sibley making way for Dawid Malan and Craig Overton coming in for the injured Mark Wood.

The visitors got off to a disastrous start as they lost the in form KL Rahul in the very first over to Anderson for a duck. The veteran fast bowler also sent back Cheteshwar Pujara and Kohli back to the hut in a superb first spell (8-5-6-3) to leave India reeling at 21/3.
