Proteas Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series- 2020-21

Here are the list of South African players who are going to feature in the two test series against Sri Lanka starting December 26.

The first test will be played at Centurion, with the second to be played at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on January 3.

New call ups to the squad include Dolphins left hander Sarel Erwee, Cobras keeper batsman Kyle Verreynne and pacer Glenton Stuurman, who impressed one and all with his pace and accuracy in the 3TC tournament held earlier this season.

Erwee’s inclusion means that Pieter Malan, who did a pretty decent job against England last summer, has to drop out, and so does his Cobras team mate Zubayr Hamza.

Quinton de Kock has been confirmed as test captain for the series, months after CSA and Graeme Smith had originally said that they were not looking at him as a test captaincy option.

Edit– Knights pacer Migael Pretorius has been added to the original squad.

New Proteas T20 Jersey 2020-2021 | South Africa T20 Kit 20-21 New Balance

Here is the new Proteas T20 jersey, the uniform for the South African national T20 team for the 2020/21 cricket season. The new kit, made by technical partners New Balance, was officially released on August 13, 2020.

The Proteas haven’t played cricket for a while due to the Coronavirus pandemic- they toured India in March but left without playing a game, and the next one to the Windies, scheduled for last month, was cancelled. Some key South African cricketers were involved in a special 3TC game on Mandela Day, won by AB de Villiers’ Eagles side.

As is the case with T20 shirts, New Balance have experimented a bit with the jersey. It also carries the words “Protea Fire” inside the neck of the shirt, as can be seen in the pics below.

Six Talking Points- Eagles vs Kites vs Kingfishers- 3TC Solidarity Cup 2020 Mandela Day

AB’s Eagles won the inaugural 3TC Solidarity Cup by beating Quinny’s Kites and KG’s Kingfishers at Supersport Park on Mandela Day.

Here are our talking points from the game.

1.Glenton Stuurman the find of the game

The ball of the day came from young pacer Glenton Stuurman, who sent Rassie van der Dussen’s stumps flying. Stuurman built up some good pace and proved difficult for the batsmen to get away. A player we definitely hope to see more of in the near future.

2.Dropped catches give De Villiers lifeline

De Villiers scored a fine 61 (24) on his return to cricket in the Republic, but was given a lifeline twice in his innings. He was dropped by keeper Heinrich Klaassen off the bowling of Tabraiz Shamsi on 1, and Thando Ntini then dropped a return catch when the Eagles captain was on 8. You don’t give a batsman like De Villiers one chance, much less two, and he made his opponents pay for the drops. Current White Proteas Players Social Media Reaction to Black Lives Matter 2020

Here is a look at how prominent white players in the current South African cricket squad voiced their support for Lungi Ngidi and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Ngidi’s statement on BLM had attracted criticism from several former white Proteas- Rudi Steyn, Brian McMillian, Boeta Dippenaar and Pat Symcox among them.

On the eve of the 3TC Solidarity Cup, several of Ngidi’s current team mates came out in his support.

India ODI Squad for South Africa Series March 2020- First by new Sunil Joshi selection committee

Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have made a comeback to India’s 15 man ODI squad for the South Africa series that was announced earlier today. The trio had missed the recently concluded tour of New Zealand, which the visitors lost 3-0, due to injury.

This is the first Indian squad to be selected by the country’s new selection committee, headed by Sunil Joshi.

What changes have India made from the NZ ODI series for the South Africa games?

Rohit Sharma is injured- he has not fully recovered from the calf injury he suffered during the fifth T20I against New Zealand, but Shikhar Dhawan, as mentioned above, has returned. Mayank Agarwal, who replaced Sharma in NZ, is not part of the 15, with Shubman Gill included in the side.

Also missing out are Kedar Jadhav, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Shami has been rested as a precautionary measure following his shoulder injury in the second test. Continue reading “India ODI Squad for South Africa Series March 2020- First by new Sunil Joshi selection committee”
